A non-profit law firm advocating for the well-being of maltreated children

Profile of Executive Director Shari Shink

Shari Shink founded the Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center (formerly the Children's Legal Clinic) in 1981. She has served as its Executive Director ever since. A 19__ graduate of Rutgers Law School, Ms. Shink began the Law Center as a federally funded demonstration project designed to tackle the poor quality of legal representation for maltreated children in the child protection system. The project's strong results -- reduced trauma for chldren, speedier family reunification, effective legal advocacy in the courts -- lead in 1985 to the development of a permanent, independant organization advocating for abused and neglected children.

Since its beginning, the Children's Law Center has legally represented thousands of foster children, and drafted dozens of legislative reforms to the Colorado Children's Code. For her work at the Center, Ms. Shink was honored with the 1999 Outstanding Legal Advocacy Award by the National Association of Counsel for Children. In 2000, Harvard University invited her to speak to and counsel its law students, as a Waserstein Fellow.
